Inventory: SKU & UPC

In Sho-Soft, you have the option to add a Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) and a Universal Product Code (UPC) to your inventory items. These fields are not required for basic setup but are helpful for more advanced inventory management.

Optional Feature

Adding SKU or UPC codes in Sho-Soft is optional. It’s most useful for:

  • Venues or producers with large, complex inventories.

  • Teams using warehousing systems or barcode scanning.

  • Organizations that need detailed product-level reporting.

For smaller teams or simple setups, you can leave these fields blank.

What is an SKU?

  • Definition: An internal identifier assigned by your organization to track products.

  • Purpose: Helps you organize and differentiate similar items in your inventory.

  • Example: CHA-001 for a standard chair, PRO-010 for a projector.

What is a UPC?

  • Definition: A standardized barcode number used globally to identify products.

  • Purpose: Useful if you purchase items from suppliers that use UPCs for scanning and tracking.

  • Example: A 12-digit code on a box of wine glasses.

Note:

  • SKU = internal code (your system).

  • UPC = external code (global standard).
